Warehouse Layout - Pallet Racking Layout Design

Pallet Racking Layout Design:- What's the point of having or building a huge warehouse with pallet racking if you don't plan the layout to its maximum potential? We have seen well-designed pallet racking schemes in smaller buildings holding more stock than much larger one's that have not been laid out effectively.

Our pallet racking layout design systems are designed to fit your needs, from a small warehouse to a major high-rise distribution centre..

Do you have warehouse pallet racking  layout design shortfalls?
Do you have warehouse space problems?
Pallet Racking Layout Design:- Need more warehousing pallet racking storage space?

Don't want to (or cannot) move, then you need to maximise every ounce of space out of your present building layout design.

To help determine the right pallet racking for your needs, you need to answer a few simple questions.

1) What size pallets will you be using?
2) What height do you need?
3) What beam size and load capacity do you need?
4) Do you need wire decking or pallet supports?

The answer to these questions will help in the layout of your pallet racking system, using the warehouse space you have to the fullest. Another item of importance is what type of forklift are you using? The forklift mast height will have a bearing on the height of the uprights for your pallet racking. Aisle width will also be determined by the forklift style, as some forklifts require more aisle spacing than others.

Pallet Racking Layout Design:- We specialise in designing storage systems that maximise productivity and operation efficiency. Our ability to solve facility material handling and storage problems, increase personnel throughput and reduce companies operating cost are unmatched in the industry.

  • Pallet Racking Layout Design Styles:- Selective Pallet Racks (Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) or Wide Aisle)  offers immediate access to each storage unit (SKU). This is the most common warehouse racking. A high-rise system needs to be designed for full throughput and storage capacity from the beginning, even though it may be several years before volume reaches maximum. Alterations to the rack structure can also be a challenge. Some systems offer flexibility in their selection of rack type, or in their ability to add equipment as the volume increases. Few companies have the luxury of assuming that their business demands will not change during the life expectancy of an asset.

  • Double Deep (LIFO) increases density for storage units with quantities of 1 or more. It requires a reach truck to access the 'back' pallet positions. Double Deep storage allows up to 33% additional storage over conventional selective pallet racks.

  • Push Back (LIFO) allows up to 5 loads deep to be stored from each side of the aisle for increased density, each pick face has its own SKU, and uses a standard forklift truck for pick & stock of inventory. Push Back racking uses pallet carts on each beam level. Push Back allows up to 75% additional storage over conventional selective pallet racking.

  • Drive-In (LIFO) provides high density for storage units with large volume storage of the same product.

  • Double-Wide Drive-In( LIFO) provides the highest density for storage units with large volume storage of the same product. These systems can store up to 100% additional storage in the same amount of space as selective pallet rack, and up to 35% more dense storage than single drive-in/drive-through racking systems. This system decreases labour costs 50% by moving two pallets at a time, and can accommodate any size pallets.

  • Cantilever can store long & heavier industrial loads such as lumber and carpet, and allows unobstructed access with hard-to-handle items.

  • Gravity-Flow (FIFO) offers maximum density for high-volume goods, expiration date sensitive inventory.

  • Wide-Span is intended for hand-loading, comes in many sizes and a variety of decking including particle board and wire mesh.

  • Rack Types:- A mix of storage rack types will suit some operations best. Every operation is unique, and a careful examination of product flow and operational demands (hours/days of operation, volume fluctuations) will be necessary to make sure that the rack layout enhances efficiency, rather than creating bottlenecks.

Expense:- Innovative storage methods do not always mean a significant capital expense.  Often it is worthwhile to bring in some outside help to help you understand how the entire system should function. Equipment vendors and material handling consultants can provide an extra set of eyes that can be a valuable resource to in-house personnel.

Pallet Racking Layout Design:- A properly designed rack storage system is a key component in the effort to achieve both customer satisfaction and continued growth.

Pallet Racking Layout Design Durability:- One important point is to consider is the amount of abuse to which the racking will be exposed. It is imperative to remember that in a warehouse, whoever argues with a forklift will lose. Material handling equipment that uses wire or rail guidance will inflict minimal, if any, damage to the storage rack. Standard forklifts and reach trucks are another matter. However, racks should also be designed to withstand the minor bumps that always occur in an operation. The busier the operation, the more potential for damage. Part of the solution is providing enough working room for both product storage and for operating equipment to reduce the potential for damage.
Supply Chain Logistics Consulting and pleased announce the launch of our new Pallet Racking Planning and Optimisation Service. Using the very latest in 3D design technology combined with our years of logistics operational experience we now have the ultimate warehouse pallet racking & layout design tools. All types of pallet racking, pallet heights, styles and sizes are catered for thus giving us the ultimate in pallet racking design schemes and space optimisation.

Pallet Racking Layout Design

Full 3D and Dimensioned  Layouts - Brings the Project to Life.

Our new pallet racking design tool challenges the material handling industry's traditional use of CAD software for space planning. When the layout drawing is completed, a photo realistic 3D image is automatically generated. The output from the design tool produces dimensioned drawings and 3D images of the new layout. The design tools allow us to give you multiple layout schemes that clearly show the pallet storage capacities, and beam levels for any size of floor space.

Multiple pallet racking layouts:-  Gives you choice and optimisation decision data.
Our service speeds up design by enabling multiple pallet racking layouts to be generated quickly & easily and by testing the proposed racking, as well as MHE, within the virtual aisle space.

Our service offer:

There are two types of pallet racking layout design services.
  • Remote Pallet Racking Layout Design -Where we will ask to complete a small data information template about your building and MHE equipment.

  • On-Site Pallet Racking Layout Design - This will involve us spending a day with you discussing your requirements.
